A stage show fascinated visitors with innovative use cases from PLCnext Technology. It served as a starting point for productive dialogue and inspiring insights at the SPS 2024 in Nuremberg.

The challenge

To design an integrative centre for the entire Phoenix Contact trade fair stand that inspires the community and arouses curiosity among visitors. Always focussing on the statement: ‘We are the most innovative automation company.’

Our approach

Making abstract topics tangible and understandable. And all this in an exciting setting to bring PLCnext Technology to life and encourage dialogue.

PLCNEXT TECHNOLOGY AT THE CENTRE OF IT ALL

This year, we have moved the special area for the PLCnext Technology to the centre of the overall Phoenix Contact trade fair stand. The heart of the staged centre: a contemporary and fascinating stage area. The neighbouring areas were used for in-depth discussions and insights to inspire, stimulate and involve the automation community. We have generated dialogue, interaction and exchange across three levels: the stage show ‘Stories of Innovation’ fascinated with three use cases from the fields of energy management, data-driven sustainability and cybersecurity. In the deep-dive and workshop area, the use cases were analysed in depth and customer-oriented solution proposals were developed. The PLCnext Technology Ecosystem became tangible in terms of content and material – completely hands-on – at our ‘Innovator’s Table’. The stage area was also the ideal location for press conferences and panel discussions.

‘With our ‘Stories of Innovation' stage show, we presented the often abstract technologies in specific applications – we made them tangible and created transferability. In this way, we were able to initiate a constructive dialogue in the deep dive and in the workshop area, which focused on the visitors' pain points in a solution-oriented way.’

SHAPING OPENNESS AND INTERLOCKING

The openness and flexibility of PLCnext Technology became the principle of the stand design. With a pipe system as the structural basis, twin-wall panels as graphic supports and the sustainably reused acrylic glass panes from previous years, a spatial interlocking with the overall stand was achieved. The various intersections of the tube system, the reflective effect of the twin-wall panals and the coloured transparency of the acrylic panels constantly provided new perspectives on the special area and the stand as a whole. In this way, connections between Phoenix Contact’s broad product range and PLCnext Technology were spatially staged and emphasised in the centre.

STORIES OF INNOVATION – SUSTAINABILITY AS A DRIVING FORCE

Two large, impressive LEDs were embedded in the pipe system. They supported the presenters with animations and documentary material during the ‘Stories of Innovation’ stage show, which lasted around half an hour. The aim: to fascinate, inform and involve visitors in intelligent automation solutions! The ideas were not preached from an ivory tower, but were backed up with real-life projects: three use cases captured in documentary form made the overarching storyline of the All Electric Society comprehensible and easy to understand! The focus was always on the two drivers of the AES: sustainability and digitalisation.

SPECIFIC SOLUTION PROPOSALS AND THE ECOSYSTEM

In the deep dive, the ‘Stories of Innovation’ could be explored in greater depth with Phoenix Contact specialists. Specific solutions were developed with visitors in the workshop area using six themed stations. The ‘Innovator's Table’ centred on the PLCnext Technology Ecosystem with its four pillars (control, engineer, store and community). The interplay of the pillars was explained and the benefits clarified in dialogue with the stand team.
